NEWBERRY, S.C. – After an undefeated weekend with three wins by fall, nationally ranked Paul Wilson of the Colorado School of Mines is the D2Wrestle National Wrestler of the Week.
Wilson – ranked 6th nationally at 197 lbs. – went 4-0 for the Orediggers last week, including three falls and a decision over No. 7 Joe Gomez of Northern State. The senior from Stillwater, Okla., pinned Chadron State’s Stuart Hircock in 2:22 on Thursday, then led Mines’ 3-0 day at the Midwest Duals on Saturday with two more falls and the 2-0 decision against Gomez.
A pair of pins against the University of Mary and Minot State came in a combined 1:16 for the RMAC and Super Region IV Wrestler of the Week, including his fastest of the season in :23.
Against Gomez, Wilson used a second-period escape to go ahead 1-0, then rode out the third period to pick up the win. For the week, he scored 21 points in four duals. This season, Wilson is 11-2 overall and has scored a remarkable 37 out of a possible 42 points in duals, going 7-0.
