Jan. 26 Regional Wrestlers of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Here are the four student-athletes who have earned Regional Wrestler of the Week honors in a week with plenty of tightly contested dual action.

This honor is for matches wrestled from January 18-25.

For the rest of the season, one wrestler will be selected from each of the four Super Regions, with the regional wrestlers of the week announced Tuesday. The national wrestler of the week will be selected from those four and announced each Wednesday.


Super Region One

Dylan Nace, East Stroudsburg
141 lbs. – R-Fr. – Flemington, N.J.

Nace went 2-0 on the week for the ESU Warriors with both wins by fall. He earned a pin of Shippensburg’s Jared Leonetti just seven seconds into the third period on Tuesday, then pinned Mercyhurst’s Joey Miller 29 seconds into the second period on Friday.

Nace is 14-2 on the year with seven wins by fall, one by tech fall and three major decisions. He is 8-0 in duals this season.


Super Region Two

Joe Brandt, Ashland
197 lbs. – Jr. – Versailles, Ohio

The Eagles wrestled only once in the week, but Ashland’s Joe Brandt picked up one of the biggest wins of the season, with a 3-1 sudden victory over Notre Dame’s Garrett Lineberger.

Brandt has been fantastic this season, going 13-2 with all losses against Division I wrestlers. Brandt is currently ranked third nationally at 197 lbs. and has been in the top four all season.


Super Region Three

Cole Wilson, Southwest Minnesota State
285 lbs. – Sr. – Faribault, Minn.

Wilson was named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week after a 2-0 week for the SMSU Mustangs.

Wilson, a 285 pounder, from Faribault, Minn., recorded a 2-0 record this past weekend against Augustana University and the University of Mary. Wilson started the weekend with a pin over No. 8 (NCAA DII)/No. 3 (Super Region III) Michael Lowman from Augustana at 6:54 for his sixth pin of the season. The heavyweight closed the weekend with a 1-0 decision over U-Mary’s Travis Smith.

Wilson, who is ranked fourth in the region at 285 pounds, carries an eight-bout win streak into the week and an 18-3 overall record.


Super Region Four

Joshua Ailey, Central Oklahoma
141 lbs. – Jr. – Tonkawa, Okla.

Joshua Ailey was named the MIAA Wrestler of the Week for his performance in three matches for the Bronchos last week.

The junior 141-pounder had three bonus-point wins in helping lead the Bronchos to three dual victories.

Ailey had a first-period fall in a 29-12 road win over Newman, another first-period pin in a big 24-15 home upset of No. 3-ranked Maryville and a 13-2 major decision in a 37-6 road rout of Ouachita Baptist.

A two-time junior college All-American at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Ailey is 13-7 on the season with 12 bonus-point wins.


Selections are made from entries submitted by coaches and SIDs throughout the nation. A group of SIDs representing all four super regions select the wrestlers of the week.
