Newberry’s Jordan Simpson named Feb. 4 National Wrestler of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry College 133 lbs. wrestler Jordan Simpson has been named the D2Wrestle National Wrestler of the Week, as announced Thursday.

12323LSimpson went 4-0 at the Super Region II Duals this weekend to lead the Wolves to four wins.

In the opening match of the weekend, the sophomore upset the top-ranked wrestler in the region with a fall at the 4:23 mark. In Friday’s second match, he pinned Emmanuel’s Dylan Carlile in the second period to lead Newberry to a conference win.

On Saturday, he took a 5-3 decision over Anderson’s Derek Bohle, then rolled to a 14-1 major decision over No. 14 Findlay’s Schuyler Phillips.

For the year, Simpson has a 13-5 overall record with five wins by fall.
