NEWBERRY, S.C. – With a pair of wins over two regionally ranked foes including an upset of the country’s No. 1 wrestler, Southwest Minnesota State’s Cole Wilson has been named the D2Wrestle National Wrestler of the Week, as announced Thursday.
Wilson won Super Region III and NSIC Wrestler of the Week and recorded a 2-0 record this past weekend against No. 2 St. Cloud State and Minot State.
Wilson started the weekend with a 4-2 sudden-victory over No. 1 Austin Goergen of St. Cloud State. The win was the first over Goergen and handed the top ranked wrestler his first loss of the season. The heavyweight closed the weekend with a 3-0 decision over Minot State’s Mitch Eull.
Wilson carries a 12-bout win streak and a 22-3 overall record.
